Our broilers are raised and
finished on fresh, clean pasture. To accomplish this, they are
protected from predators in a "field pen" and are moved to fresh pasture every day. They are
given our custom feed ration which contains no medication or
chemicals. We use no fertilizers on the pasture, other than the
fertilizer contributed to by our animals. The result is a plump,
juicy chicken that is worthy of your family's table!
Our broilers begin as day old chicks that we get from a regional hatchery. When the baby chicks arrive, they are kept in our Chick Chalet for warmth and care. We use a deep bed of wood chips that allows their manure to be captured as compost and used later on the pasture to improve fertility. The birds are vigorous foragers that enjoy scratching, stretching and exploring their new world.
When the chicks are 10 days to 3 weeks old (dependent on the weather), we move them to a field pen in the pasture. Here they can get fresh greens and bugs as they grow to about 8 weeks old. At about 8 weeks old, they are processed and frozen. Our birds average between 4.5 and 5 pounds. We do offer birds from about 3.5 to 6.5 pounds.
If you haven't tried one of these delicious birds, give yourself and your family a treat today. Because we are attempting to work with nature in producing all of our products, these birds are only offered during the "growing season" which extends from May through November. We do have some frozen, here on the farm, so give us a call to check our supply!
