Our pasture-fresh eggs are not only nutritous, but also have wonderful taste and cooking qualities. If you've never had a farm fresh, pastured egg, you are missing a healthy, nutritous treat. Some nutritionists recommend pastured eggs to actually lower cholesterol. This is due to the health benefits of the increased level of Omega-3 fatty acids that the chickens get from their diet of fresh greens.

The layers begin just like the broilers, as day old chicks in our Chick Chalet for warmth and care. To increase our pastures fertility, we use a deep bed of wood chips that allows their manure to be captured as compost. Later, the compost is spread on our pasture. Like the broilers, they are moved to "field pens" when they are from 10 days to three weeks old (dependent on the weather).

When they are about 5 months old they are known as pullets. We introduce them to the laying flock and our Chicken Trailer. They continue to eat fresh greens, bugs and our medication-free, chemical-free ration. We protect them from four-legged predators with electric poultry netting. (Our chickens are so good, that it seems that predators come from miles around to enjoy a fresh, pastured "chicken sandwich".) Each night, the chickens climb into the trailer to roost. Every three to four days they are moved to fresh pasture to begin their grazing and cleaning activities.

Our eggs are available year round, but the brightest colored yolks are available in the spring and fall when the most green grass and legumes are available.
